My favourite thing about Virginia Woolf is always her brutal honesty.

Hum actually this references Three Guineas by Virginia Woolf so much that I will have to postpone reading this until I’ve read that one. Damn.

I read the same Virginia Woolf quote in two different books today.

Not intentionally, although the topics are similar enough that it’s not that big of a coincidence.

I’m regretting my choice of tabs for the annotations, because I only have 20 of this colour and I’m well on my way to use far more than that in this book. It’s overflowing with great quotes and commentary.

The learning curve is surprisingly steep. I honestly didn’t expect it since Murderbot’s worldbuilding is so ingeniously simple.

Something you gotta love with Martha Wells is that her protagonists have body counts. High body counts. Homeboy just killed like 6 people in the first chapter.

Headcanon that Tarik has Québécois heritage.

11 pages after I started complaining lol. Martha Wells genuinely knew how long she could keep this thing going without losing the reader.

The frustrating thing about the “Redacted” parts is that I don’t know if they’re caused by trauma from the events of book 5 or if the trauma is something we have not seen yet (because it’s been redacted). I’d like to know which one it is at least.

I ordered a different edition to get the original 1818 text. What’s annoying though is that I’ve been annotating this version so I’m going to have to keep it. Well. I can always compare them for fun.

Damn I just realized I’m reading the 1831 version. :(

So I knew this was about a woman escaping the cult she grew up in. What I didn’t know was the amount of sexual assault and pedophilia she was subjected to.

It starts right at the beginning of the book, and while the descriptions aren’t pornographic (thank god for that), they’re explicit enough that it makes the reading experience pretty harrowing. I’ll probably put this on hold for a while, it’s a lot.
