I don’t like Eliza very much, I don’t understand how they ended up in chains either, but I’m intrigued and would like to read more on the original letters from India of Eliza fay, I found it a little difficult to comprehend though, so I think it’d be best if I reread at some point after finishing the prose and possibly alongside with her writings, maybe I’ll be able to understand her better too?

Ive started Pharillon, i think Mrs Fay despises her husband, is incredibly christian and narrow-minded as well as judgemental of others, so she isn’t giving me a great impression. Also, I’m discombobulated by the rejection of Christians in Egypt as in ‘Pharos,’ Christianity was described as very sought after by Egypt? However, I am most intrigued to see where this distaste derives from and why !

It’s been interesting, I’m liking the reference to other philosophies and philosophers but would’ve liked a bit more development. I like his writing style so far too, though it’s an essay, it feels like a story kind of.

The irony underpinning the novel has set the stage since the first scene. All stereotypes “forced” upon the indigenous family are challenged—completely. But there are so many hidden critiques, remarks i would’ve missed had i not reread as i go. To think this runs as a continuation of the stolen generations, is not a far stretch imo. I love the dynamics so far, the quiet division and outspoken claim to rights.

Shes gone from living in the lap of luxury to poverty—literally 2 poles. Jose is persistent, but resilience can be a good thing. I think her father’s a coward and had a bit of an ego, however, as a result of his stubbornness, his son’s fears were right and he definitely should’ve taken the advice! Jose is admirable in his qualities, still trying to provide, his brothers, not so much. Family name=tarnished

The creature seems more humane, more relatable, hes like a child forced to grow up on his own in a cruel world of rejection - i kind of feel for him tbh.

Although, i must admit i feel sad :(

Well, ive begun the creatures story, however, im glad that victor was able to muster some compassion for it, im not sure if itll last, but i hope it does. The poor creature had to fight for its life - im glad that its not asking victor to kill it.

I think im going to need to reevaluate my ideas around this novel and reread it.

Its starting to seem like a murder mystery !!! And the culprit is the creature for sure, i believe in justine’s innocence !

BETH IS SICK WITH SCARLETT FEVER - but shes getting better, amy is with aunt march and she dont sound like an aunt to me cause she talks about heryouth that was 60 years ago

The dad’s sick !! But they’re pushing through together as a family… even the Laurences ;)

To be honest, i was a little confused at first, but now i’m understanding that its two people telling a story - the captain is telling victors story as victor tells him. Although, it is quite different to the movie at the moment - since im only reading about victor’s upbringing currently. I can’t wait.

It’s making me quite sad, but the son seems to be symbolic of hope and i think the father should endevour to protect that at all costs (he appears to as well) since it’s such a pessimistic world they have and such little time - i believe they both see the value of the little things - particularly the fact that they only have eachother that they can truly trust. Its beautiful yet sad. I love it !!

I think its ironic how the man and boy create fire when their world is now but ash and dirt. I think its winter now as the water is icy and cold, or at least it is cold. Though im seeing some parallel to the movie A quiet place, as people from either film essentially live in silence, however the boy seems to not want to talk to the man???

Kind of disjointed, current vibe; loss, fear, isolation (definitely), appears that mother has died - father regretful?? Kid seems emotional at times - wanting to help, trying to survive, trying to be a kid despite circumstances. Both seem sad, struggling, worn out. Breakin my heart a little when the guy got zapped by lightining and the kid wanted to help but cant, also the fact that the kid hasnt ‘smiled’ :((

Miss Kate doesn’t seem to be the nicest person and is actually rather degradative towards others, in contrast Mr Brown is incredibly friendly towards Meg, i think theres a chance for a spark! Jo and laurie also seem closer

As the girls explain their little pilgrimage about their morals, housework, ethics, health and health which causes him (and i) to reflect upon our day to day lives and things we value.

The girl’s continue their daily duties, one which they enjoy the most is doing the mail. Jo receives a letter from her mother which acknowledges her hardships and successes in managing her temper (she treasures it dearly)

Laurie invites the march girls out to have some fun and socialise, they meet 4 others Laurie met abroad - together they play, talk and eat, befriending each other, observing their differences.

The girls learnt that in life there needs to be a balance between play and work, that to completely understand pleasantries is to work hard to earn them, and vice versa. Teaching that everyone has their own responsibilities.

We also explored some social constructs and things the girls do to signify their independence, growth and unity as they make little clubs in which they humour themselves and society.

I’ve come to learn about some things the girls struggle with; Jo with her temper, Meg with her desire to fit in.

Jo and Marmee explore a deeper connection as Jo learns that her mother used to struggle with it as well - taking insight into ways to manage her temper.

Meg’s desire to fit in lands her in a bit of trouble. However, both girls find comfort in seeking guidance from mum as well as compassion.

Laurie and his grandfather befriend the Marches, i think Beth finds a friend in the grandfather since she gets the opportunity for music at their house. The marches are frequent visitors to their house and spend lots of time with laurie.

Amy has learnt a lesson about being conceited and is learning ways to fix it.
Meg sacrifices money for Amy’s desire to fit in - displaying her love and compassion.
