It's definitely hard to understand at some points, but seeing how it was written in the 1800's, I'm not surprised, overall, is a good read.

This book, so far, is the very best music theory book I have ever read. Things are explained so well, and unlike other music theory books I've read, Stephen doesn't just say a bunch of rules, but also explains why the rules are there, and why they are generally followed in common practice music.
