Fantastic story telling by Moorhouse, an author one feels has visited all the places mentioned along the Nile

Not sure I like Fry’s style and may not finish it

Seems to be a lot about napoleon which is fine but only a tenuous link with the Nile and not obviously the blue Nile

Read it 20 years ago but have absolutely no recall of ever having done so

I’m racing along getting the backdrop on the two central characters- yes you guessed it: the diffident Englishman and the over confident American!

Should be called: “Farewell to literature” as it’s poorly written, repetitive and banal in places but nonetheless an interesting insight into a little known theatre of the First World War that is the Austrian/Italian alps
