This is such a great example of how an audiobook narrator can really enhance the narrative. When blues songs are mentioned, the narrator actually sings them! And the story itself is just fantastic.

I'm so impressed by the way Slatter gets you hooked right at the start, yet doesn't show her hand. Reading her work feels like following a trail of breadcrumbs through a dark and misty forest, forever looking over your shoulder because you're *sure* you're not alone.

Dang, what an intriguing way to start this story!

The reviews about this book are so different; it just made me so curious to experience it for myself.

Blergh, I vehemently hate the trope of one character being like "you belong with me!!", the other character drawing back, and then the first character thinking "it's okay, as long as they come with me, I'll convince them with time". No you creep! Leave them the fuck alone!

Ha, the subtitle of this book could be "thirsty AF".

Yes, this is the perfect historical-fiction palate cleanser. Though honestly, I could listen to Joniece Abbott-Pratt narrate an Ikea manual, and still have a good time.
