So I’m just not really a fan of reading about pregnancy or babies or any of that like none of that appeals to me
So this book is not exactly captivating my interest also Eve has started to lose a little bit of her humour
Idk

The name Shep just makes me think of a German Shepherd a.k.a. a dog
I wonder if that was intentional giving he does give golden retriever energy a little bit

How often am I going to hear about Shep and his big feet? 🙈

Just straight off the bat
Eve is funny like really funny
I haven’t made much progress in this book, but I’m willing to wager that she is probably the funniest FMC I have read or at least so far

Just to say
Austin is a jerk
Flora is not too much
I don’t think she’s too much at all
Do I think that sometimes she says a lot of long winded things that people probably wouldn’t say in real life?
Yeah
But I don’t think she’s too much
I actually quite enjoy her
She has a naïveté and sweetness to her. That is quite pleasant to read.

Ah Fletcher you beautiful man you’ve got me kicking my feet and grinning ear to ear here how embarrassing for me

I am such a sucker for a nice man who pays attention and remembers little things and ughhhhh
Oh boy the yearn is threatening to be awoken by all this

Flora, I wholeheartedly agree
There is absolutely something endearing about a man who stands when you enter the room

I’m starting to get on board
You know as someone who hasn’t really read a lot of if any contemporary romances this is starting to grow on me and I don’t know why I haven’t read any because… hello I am a romantic
I am a sucker for the secret reveal that the man has been doing all these little things for her without ever telling her and that he’s a softy for her in private

Uh oh
Is she… me?

So this book isn’t bad
It’s not exactly winning me over
I can’t explain it
The writing feels a bit… I don’t even have the words
And the characters kind of just are
I’m not intrigued by any of them. I’m not desperate to know more about any of them. I’m not attached to any of them. I’m not rooting for the main two yet either
So it’s just a basic read to me right now

It doesn’t feel like a lot is happening rn

Oh gosh having Beetee there with his son is insane!

I will be interested to see how this is pulled off given we saw Haymitch’s games in Catching Fire
Also I find it a little pretentious that Lenore Dove is consistently full named

Perfectly pleasant and enjoyable

There is no subtlety here
Wes obviously a good guy and Liz is gonna fall

But is it a romance novel trope to point out that the main love interest is big? Big hands. Tall. Etc

Like hello is this Louisa Clark and Sam Fielding?

So Liz has a little bit of a snootiness to her due to her rom com prowess
It’s not protected outward onto others but the way she narrates seems to indicate so

Wes is actually my fave character so far

We all know where this is going
He prolly has been mean to her because he has always liked her etc. but I’m here for cheese and I’m sat for the cheese

She’s so mean to my dude Raymond
In her narration anyway
Poor Raymond 😭

I really like Raymond

That’s all the update for now

I am starting to empathise with Eleanor
After learning how deprived she is
What with her finding joy in small things
Party invites
Having her head massaged before a cut
Going to lunch on a workday with Raymond
Talking to someone about her life etc.

As a character, I’m not sure that I like Eleanor
And there’s hasn’t been enough shared about her past to warrant empathising with her
Right now she’s just rude, snooty, superior, unpleasant, a little creepy.
I do hope she grows on me soon

I’m listening to the audiobook audiobook
The way the narrator speaks as Eleanor’s mum actually gives me chills and makes me squirm. It’s so uncomfortable which I’m guessing is the idea.

Now that we’re further in the book
The similarities I originally drew between her and I start to fall away
And I’m realising this is more of a tragedy than a comedy as I initially thought
Eleanor is blunt, a little curt, I think slightly rude and judgmental with a bit of a superiority complex.
But I am interested to see where this goes

Okay so she’s not the spitting image but some of the things she says and does I hear and I think “Yep. Same”

But also she does sound a bit like a judgy grumpy old person in an almost 30 year old body which is interesting to read about

Josh was such a pointless and awkward character
Was he just there to create tension for Sam and Lou?
He was overly eager and keen. Intimidatingly so.
Lou kept remarking on how much he looked like Will, almost as much as she mentioned how big was Sam was
he was nice enough but there was always a sense that he had ulterior motives.
I don’t really know why he’s in this book tbh

Lou is such a dork 😂
But I do love that she’s coming back around in this book
She’s a little bit judgy too, but I get it.
