She’s so mean to my dude Raymond

I really like Raymond

That’s all the update for now

I am starting to empathise with Eleanor
After learning how deprived she is
What with her finding joy in small things
Party invites
Having her head massaged before a cut
Going to lunch on a workday with Raymond
Talking to someone about her life etc.

As a character, I’m not sure that I like Eleanor
And there’s hasn’t been enough shared about her past to warrant empathising with her
Right now she’s just rude, snooty, superior, unpleasant, a little creepy.
I do hope she grows on me soon

I’m listening to the audiobook audiobook
The way the narrator speaks as Eleanor’s mum actually gives me chills and makes me squirm. It’s so uncomfortable which I’m guessing is the idea.

Now that we’re further in the book
The similarities I originally drew between her and I start to fall away
And I’m realising this is more of a tragedy than a comedy as I initially thought
Eleanor is blunt, a little curt, I think slightly rude and judgmental with a bit of a superiority complex.
But I am interested to see where this goes

Okay so she’s not the spitting image but some of the things she says and does I hear and I think “Yep. Same”

But also she does sound a bit like a judgy grumpy old person in an almost 30 year old body which is interesting to read about

Josh was such a pointless and awkward character
Was he just there to create tension for Sam and Lou?
He was overly eager and keen. Intimidatingly so.
Lou kept remarking on how much he looked like Will, almost as much as she mentioned how big was Sam was
he was nice enough but there was always a sense that he had ulterior motives.
I don’t really know why he’s in this book tbh

Lou is such a dork 😂
But I do love that she’s coming back around in this book
She’s a little bit judgy too, but I get it.
The clumsy, babbling, endearing FMC

Okay girl why the hell is Will coming up post sleeping with another man 😭😭
Why you so fixated on a man you knew for 6 months over 2 years ago??
I don’t get it
And it’s a little cringy to read I swear

I cannot deal with this “Josh as a new love interest” plot point that seems to be where the story is headed
He hasn’t become a love interest YET but with Sam gone (huge fall from grace for Sam who seemed decent in book 2) it’s very clear where this is headed but I hope not because it’s weird that he looks like Will 😭😭😭

Sam is huge
Same is large
Same is big
Sam is tall

My goodness Lou I get it please stop I beg 😭😭😭

Also I have a hunch she’s misinterpreted what she’s seen with Sam and whatsherface but we shall see we shall see

If I hear this woman mention how big or solid Sam is one more time
I might just lose my mind

Also I fear a love triangle is being set up and I detest that. This better not lead to anything or else…

Louisa has a bit more pep in her step this time around and it feels like she’s becoming more like the Lou we knew from the first book
Agnes is an interesting character
I like the Lou/Nathan friendship
Sam seems a little distant this time and I swear if Josh starts a love triangle I’ll rage

Also it seems like it’s been forgotten that this book is set in like 2009/2010 (i noticed this is ‘after you’ too)

What IS Lou doing?
She’s kind of infuriating
Wasting opportunities
Stringing Sam along
Also she has lost her spark and all that made her so likeable in the first book
Lily has gotten more likeable and the relationship between her and Camilla is cute and a little heartwarming

It really doesn’t feel like there’s a lot going on here
Also the way Lou asks Will in her head if things are okay seems overdone
But maybe I’m just an outsider unfamiliar with the workings of a heart in love ?

Hmmm this is defs less intriguing than its predecessor
Lou is (understandably) a shell of her former self
Lily irks me

Oooh he’s bound to another symbol
I wonder… how many symbols total will he be able to be bound to?

Oh… I knew they would never ascend but I’m enraged at such injustices
I’m very enthralled right now
It’s interesting to me how already there is this tug of war within castor about whether or not he truly wants revenge or will it be hollow and meaningless?

Halfway through and I am enjoying this book
Marcus has grown on me in the most recent chapters
I’m intrigued by the politicking that’s going on
It feels like we’re being set up for a bit of a twist which I’m keen to see play out
So far a four star read

The training sequences were a bit of a lull for me to be honest but I'm glad things have started picking up again!
I defs like Castor and Felix!
Marcus… I’m not fully sold on yet even though I get why he is the way he is after everything that’s happened.

“Dead gods” is sooooo Will of the Many coded
But yeah so far so good
I like Felix
I also like Castor, he’s a bit of a less impulsive version of Vis

I am quite fond of Castor
And I am definitely enjoying this book
Very fast paced
Lots going on

So far I’m intrigued
This book is definitely reminiscent of Will of the Many but I’m lapping it up

Okay so I’m learning I need action to draw me in
And we’ve finally just got to some
I don’t feel particularly drawn to any of the characters, Tress and her friends are all nice enough but maybe a little bit one note? I’m not sure. I’m not intrigued by any but at the same time I don’t want anything bad to befall them. Idk why??

Okay it’s starting to get better!
But I’m still leaning towards a 3 or 3.5 (why can’t I do .5 ratings here dang it)

This book is fine
But that’s sort of it - just fine
I’m not enthralled
I’m not eagerly anticipating what’s happening next
I’m not keen to turn the pages
There’s some humour sure and that’s fine
With the mystery of Captain Crown presented I’m a little more intrigued
But that’s about all. I’m not desperate for Tress to find Charlie or anything like that right now. I’m just reading because

Hmm after reading the strange the dreamer duology with its poetic prose and flowery, gorgeous language. This book feels a bit “eh” but I am intrigued enough to keep on reading… even if I’m still confused as to what the spores are and what they do
