why are all the evil people in STEM (more so science and tech) #nooticing

work itself is not the social evil. Work that has been completely devalued and deprived of any social meaning, alienated and for the interests of the few is the social evil. What do we mean by ‘work’, ‘play’ ‘happiness’ ‘rest’. An “optimal” society even if it were achieved by human standards would still be utterly soulless.

A real good read!! Linda’s character is sending meeeee wdym monogamy is uncivilised wow the traumatic undoing of her conditioning mixed with nostalgia at the site of Lenina is sooo interesting.

What the hell kinda ritual going on?! I hate that we are watching this from lenina and Bernard’s perspective because we’re forced to see the “savages” as…savage!

I’m kind of in love with huxley’s writing style. After the density of chapter 1, the following chapters outlining this kind of pseudo religious world dependent on social emotional and genetic engineering have me so hooked. The replacing God with Ford, ✝️ with T, perverting the concept of communion and dying to self. It’s like Huxley your mind to have written this is so complex I love it.

I usually love a dystopian & I can already see themes of humans trying to play God with eugenics and ensuring conformity through genetic and social engineering but Huxley’s prose is a bit difficult - he likes overly long run on sentences and doesn’t punctuate v well. It’s probably stylistic/ intentional but it requires a lot of concentration. The sexual themes & lack of child safeguarding is v uneasy for me tho

Interweaving Nigerian history, diasporic history, relatability and modern phenomena and having the characters all link to each other in a way that is not confusing requires so much deft of skill. Omolola you are big-brained😍 The only thing that would take this book to the next level is just a bit more intentionality with character development - like RF Kuang did in Babel. Love it so far tho

Personally thinking the hurricane is a bit of a lazy plot device to sneak in the title of the book but I’m sure it represents all the other themes the book has explored thus far. It just feels lazy because getting caught in the hurricane was very avoidable. I wonder what will happen next
