Listening along to Dune on Audible is a neat experience. There are some long names drawing from Arabic and Latin such as the “Bene Gesserit,” and the “Kwisatz Haderach,” that I definitely had to search how to spell on Google. When the narrator gets to say them, it sounds like a mouthful of nonsense.

Beautiful world-building thus far. Very show, not tell style of writing.

Today’s poem: “Father of Mercies, in Thy Word”

“Here springs of consolation rise
To cheer the fainting mind,
And thirsting souls receive supplies,
And sweet refreshment find.”

And onto the next book. Still trailing behind my nephew as he reads, somehow he has sped past me and is two books ahead… jeez. What I would do to have the free time of a 10 year old.

“His promises, so rich, so great,
Are my support and stay;
I’ll drop the anchor Hope ahead,
And wish, but wait for day.”

Today’s poem: “Casting Anchors.” A prayer when considering death.

“The Preparation of the Heart” by James Montgomery.

A vivid description of acid burning a dragon’s face off. Pretty sweet.

“Hymn for the Morning” by Thomas Flatman. To begin each day with a fresh start.

“Awake, my soul! awake, mine eyes!
Awake, my drowsy faculties”

I like how they did the humans (“scavengers”). There was another (unexpectedly) very brutal moment including one.

Today: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord by James Montgomery. Prompts one to contemplate how to express the wonder of God from time past, present, and future; giving new words and expressions for worship.

Pretty violent for a kids book.
