Unfortunately reading The Devils just made me wish I was reading the Gentleman Bastards series and so far this book does not disappoint. Thorn of Emberlain WHEN

One of those where “predictable” =\= “unenjoyable”. Every plot beat has been telegraphed well in advance but this is still such a fun time

My ereader died in the middle of this and I lost all my highlights because I hadn’t synced it in over a week 💔 truly the devils… anyway I am beginning to think I don’t like action scenes in anything. Or maybe my standards for action sequences are unreasonably high.

I keep putting off reading this because it is too good

The uncanny and somewhat unfortunate sense that this would have hit sooo hard during my Moffat Doctor Who years……..

Closes this book for the day and immediately gets smacked in the face with a comment thread filled with the most ableist rhetoric imaginable from r/professors. I fear this book remains evergreen…

Never underestimate how refreshing it is to read a book containing many of the tropes of your favorite YA fantasy reads but seen through the perspective of a 34 year old MC with adult problems and adult approaches to interpersonal conflicts

What

goodreads reviewers will be like, “this book aged like fine wine!” and then you pop it open to find that the wine was made with the grapes of racism and fatphobia… 🙄 I’m waiting until the end to do a full review obviously; the prose is stunning and the story and setting are infuriatingly compelling, so it’s frustrating how they get bogged down with some absolutely garbage stereotypes…
