Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst
Triune Brain: Ancient brain, recently evolved in mammals, recently evolved layer of neocortex
It’s interesting how many different theories there are of the brain. ID, ego, superego

“. . . these are utterly intertwined answers, none standing alone.”
Okay Prof Temple was onto something! Also learned about this freshman year in general psychology. Behavior cannot be explained merely by one thing. Like the anxieties of cheating. You may now do certain actions because in the past you were cheated on. But you also learn you own father has cheated on people in his past. 🤨

“The opposite of love is not hate; it’s opposite is indifference”
Can you love someone that you disagree with? I saw a video today that said if your partner is racist , it makes you racist, because that means you tolerate the behavior and if you weren’t racist yourself, you wouldn’t tolerate it. Food for thought.

“…targeting someone just because they’re weak and you’re frustrated, stressed, or pained and need to displace some aggression…when unemployment rises, so do rates of domestic violence”
This is an interesting point made as I never really focused on this in my crime class in college. I do see the connection though in terms of behavior & stimuli

Sensory stimuli include: mechanical, chemical, electromagnetic, thermal, and proprioceptive. These are related to the senses : touch, sight, hearing, taste, smell. How we perceive the world!

“We construct cultures premed on beliefs concerning the nature of life and transmit those beliefs multigenerationally”
This reminds me of how often times in families, stereotypes can fall into beliefs that individuals may think they must believe in — until eventually they can develop their own opinions and biases

Intro: “… we don’t hate violence. We hate and fear the wrong kind of violence, violence in the wrong context. Because violence in the right context is different”
