The line that goes something like, “Too much focus on man is the bane of both theologians and zoologists alike”, was incredible. I really liked the deep description of zoo life and the presentation of them as alternative habitats. I can already imagine how that may connect to future commentary.

The editor, James Chambers, really wasn’t kidding when he said these built upon one another and the earlier The King in Yellow. It’s really exciting to see what these authors have put together. So far the first story, the one of Robert Chambers writing process, was my favorite. The story makes it feel as if we too live in this world, and if we’re not careful, we may invite in the influence of the yellow sign.

I’m really liking his writing style and his emphasis on theism and atheism both being methods of believing. I appreciate how that shows the influence religious studies as opposed to a more simpler theological outlook. And when he said, “I am who I am” to the French person over the phone, that was so fun lol. The name of God being used, and then immediately being misunderstood, is a fun thing to keep in mind

The yellow sign story was really good too. I really liked the cautious romance between the two protagonists, and the way the man’s concerns were actually realistic. The influence of his Catholicism was also kinda cool, I liked the little view into the authors experience with that. My favorite line though was when the man said since he’s so lonely he has a lot to confess about lol. What a thing to say in a letter

Okay, the mask story was actually kinda crazy. I loved that ending. I don’t expect it to be so bittersweet and warm

So far so good, but I didn’t expect it to be a series of short stories. Not gonna lie though, looking from the average joe’s pov, the protag got absolutely baited and old guy was crazy crazy
