I finished flowers in the attic and debating whether to start petals in the wind. Overall I liked it and wish the incest was worse. It was quite anti-climatic in certain scenes.

The mom is so sus. Catherine can feel that her mom is wrong deep down inside, but her love for her mom won’t let her think negatively of her for too long

The back story of Corinne and Chris was as crazy as I expected. The phenomenon of Genetic Sexual Attraction strikes again. The attic in question was also much larger than I expected. It made me re-imagine the layout of the mansion where the four siblings were sequestered.

Dorian Gray you would have loved adderall or at least an ADHD diagnosis. This chapter was hard to get through as it was a constant non stop listing of various anecdotes and details about jewelries, clothes, fancy things that Dorian Gray collected. What is interesting though was the discussion of religion + beauty + richness + characters of the book that Dorian Gray is obsessed with

So far there is a very strong sense of style in the writing. Because I’ve seen the movie adaptations as well as the prequel/origins show, I have certain insights into the characters. Idk if the author intended for the mother (Corinne) to be so manipulative and unflinchingly weird & selfish since the beginning but it is pretty obvious & gives a nice atmospheric, eerie feel to the early chapters

Finished ‘enchantment’ portion. Very cinematic. You really can’t go wrong with being left alone on an island with storms and religious imagery. The beetle cameo reminds me of the beetle in zoe’s dream re: ‘things have gotten worse.’ I love a good religious faith situation in books

I have finished ‘Things have gotten worse since we last spoke’ and I really enjoyed the birth. I am not a huge fan of first person pov, however, this portion of the book might have changed my mind. Zoe’s character was disappointing because I had thought she would be a much more enigmatic, sociopathic, and psychopathic charcater. But there is something enjoyable in her last moments online being so pathetic.

AGNES RUN GIRL RUN i also read 98 pages in one sitting. The first story is told through emails and forum posting. There is a very sharp tone shift and the horror only amplifies as you read on.

I like this series MaoMao is great and I love all the characters. It is pretty stale because the plots are slow to unravel and the story more often than not focuses on the historical happenings and facts than the actual plot. I do have to stop and restart this series throughout all the books.

Chapter XI: it starts slow and dramatic as all gay things are but things are amping up (justice for sibyl vane)

The translation has been pretty stilted (which could just be a honest capture of the way the original was at the time the story was first told) but overall I LOVE SUN WU KONG AND WILL ALWAYS DEFEND HIM!!
