The attempted break out… This scene could have been done so much better. Von shadow walks. So why didn’t he go into the camp with Sage and immediately shadow the three of them out of there once they spotted Kaleb? Or even better… Von did recon earlier at the camp, so couldn’t he have just figured out what tent Kaleb was in and got him out? Plus, afterwards, no one seems all too worried that Soren is MIA.

Decided to give this book a soft DNF. Might revisit if time permits. From what I read, I’d give this book a 2.5 ⭐️. Great character development and imagery. Beautifully written, just not fast paced enough to keep me interested. I felt like what was written in these 253 pages I read could have been condensed into like 100 pages.

Thoughts so far: Dialogue could be better. The banter is cringey in some parts and just overall dialogue never seems to flow. It feels awkward. The overall plot is interesting enough to keep me wanting more but I do think some instances of foreshadowing are too obvious and give too much away.

Contemplating dnf’ing the book. Love the characters but the story has a slow pace and I’m having a hard time holding interest.
