I’m going to use the same exact words one of my great friends used to describe MD for me before I read it “Moby Dick is a slog. The first few chapters are interesting. But while he was writing it, Melville met Nathaniel Hawthorne, who wrote the Scarlett Letter. Hawthorne had a very boring writing style but Melville liked it, so the style of Moby Dick changes midway through the book and it becomes insufferable.”
