A wonderfully easy, if poignant, read. Malala’s relationship with her parents, and her home is full of yearning, brightness, and hope.

I love comparing and contrasting movie adaptations to books—though usually I read before I watch. I’ve been wanting to read this for a long time, and I find it fascinating to experience it now after having not only lived in Japan, but in and around the exact same areas explored in the novel.

So far, I’ll say the movie’s pretty spot on—and the book has a grittiness to it I didn’t expect!

Re-reading a fave!

I don’t get how easy reads like this take 500 years to get through.

I’m always a fan of McCarthy’s stories and descriptions but his writing style to this day irks the piss outta me.

I have a personal pet peeve of seeing characters—especially lady characters—do something like giggle and then comment to themselves that such behavior is so “uncharacteristic” of them. Please.

Not my typical read. It’s slow going, even with short chapters.
