I swear by all that is holy, this book has one of the densest heroines I've encountered in a long time. Every time I start to like her, she gets confounded by the next plot shift.

Things start to get more interesting after the first two chapters. I'm finding the major events predictable, but I still enjoy the reading.

The first two chapters are exceptionally frantic. I'm sure that's the point, but it's kind of making it hard for me to pick the book up again.

Maybe it's cheating to add my own books to the challenge, but I *am* reading it, so. Some of the earlier bits make me cringe, though. I was a lot less conscious of issues of race and appropriation when I wrote this, and I feel like I need to add some kind of preface stating that.

This is my 4th or 5th time reading this book, and it's going a bit rough. I'm finding the language and style quite dated, a bit stiff and stilted compared to what you might ready from contemporary writers. The story isn't moving quite fast enough to keep my attention for long, as important as it is. My headache may have something to do with it!

There are some movies I've watched and enjoyed--like "Detroit Rock City" and "Grandma's Boy"--that I think, "This is totally the kind of absurd shit stoned people fantasize about." This book is like that, in a way. Half "it would be SO COOL if..." and half "Look how much I know about 80s pop culture!" Cute, but sometimes irritating.

A bit of a slow start, but beginning to pick up.

Finally picked this up again after months of not reading at all.

This is an okay diversion during a time when I'm not feeling like doing much. Lots of standard end-of-the-world and post-apocalyptic tropes. Not very challenging. Full review coming in the next couple days.

I'm really enjoying this. I haven't liked the Outlander books so much since Drums of Autumn, although I've kept up with them. But this one has me hooked. Many familiar faces return in unexpected ways, and the plot is engaging.
