this book is so relatable
the way lucy talks about denying her feelings about not liking boys. denying how she looks at sussanah, it's all very real!!!

i actually think it is very refreshing how lucy starts out not knowing she is gay. it's awesome.
also i can tell the author who wrote this loves their mother a whole lot. the exerpt where lucy is talking about how she wonders what her mother's life would be without children, or a husband, is so endearing and real and a little terrifying

um..
i got past the peach scene. what a disgusting, twisted, yet incredibly written scene. i am disgusted reading this book. it has confirmed to me that this is not a love story- it is a entirely perverse tale about a young man's fantasies, how he is groomed and manipulated based on this false attachment. i really hate how well this is written, but i am also facing much distain for how it is interpreted as "love".

well!
i have some thoughts. i think i expected this book to be perverse, and shocking. but not to this extent. i want to finish it, because i don't want to dismiss the book because it reads as problematic- something can be problematic and also have reason for being critically acclaimed, i guess(?)
anyway. the book does a very good job at describing the overwhelming desire elio feels. but i said that already.

a little hesitant to start this because i hear it compared and described as "the gay version of lolita"
so i'm going in with a somewhat negative bias already. however, i so far, enjoy how well mr. aciman is able to describe the feeling of yearning and sexual desire.

i really really like this book.. i also feel the dread and fear and disgust and anger of cameron as she is sent to promkse. i am genuinely filled with disgusted sadness when i read what coley had said. this book is so important. i hope things work out.

THIS. THIS IS THE SLOWBURN GAY LOVE STORY I NEEDED. FUCK HEATED RIVALRY, THISSSSS IS TOO GOOD. Coley and Cameron together is so cute and innocent, and it really does speak to the naive experience of queer youth. it's too good. the way emily describes every scene with such vivid detail and emotion without using vulgar language is so good and so awesome. i love it so far.

dude omg!! this book is so immersive and so good and i can see myself getting so sucked into it.
i love how realistic cameron feels. i feel her- as a queer 20-something, i really do feel her experience.
i also really like jamie. he reminds me of my best friend- a little weird, quirked up, white boy that might be a little bit of an ass sometimes, but at his core, he's a really, really good friend.

DUDE NOW IT IS GETTING GOOD. WHAAT.
most of the chapters before chapter 17 were just smut. but seeing the relationship between illya and shane develop into something more feels so refreshing. i like how they actually laugh together, have meaningful conversations, and actually feel like they could genuinely like each other. starting to like the book more than the show because of this

yeaaa.... i feel like i see the criticism now.
as a gay man. i'm still going to read the whole thing, because, duh. it is very appealing
but... it lacks depth. i don't really get the nuance of the characters. it reads as pure smut. which isn't a bad thing, but i think it would be objectively better for the depth of said smut and the story overall if there was more character depth

dude oh my god the explicit description of how freaky they get is insane. it makes me so uncomfy reading this in public but at the same time i totally get why people read smut now
100% better than the show already

good so far!! i really liked the story about dorothy and peter. it shows the perserverance of love and how ridiculous it can all get in the chase to feel different.
i also liked the story about the train.

very very good so far! the age of this book definitely shows, but i think it holds up pretty well considering that
it's important to remember the context of when this was written too
