I'm invested, but this feels more like a regular old novel than Handmaid's Tale. Less psychological, less claustrophobic.

I like the book but I don't love what happened with Lydia's character. Apparently being performative is a performance. Anyways, would've liked a cold open for her, like an action portrait of how she gives her addresses.

Holy prediction. "...to begin his own 'Christian America' denomination," "...if the country is mad enough to elect him," fucking "make America great again." I do think Butler may be overestimating religion as a force a little bit. It seems there's lots of ways for oppression to pattern itself other than as crusaders. She overestimates the necessity of being hot too. But the slogan almost makes me think he read it too

good survival story

I'm bringing my YA Sci-fi habits into this and Keith's progression totally caught me off guard. I disagree with some of Lauren's Earthseed ideology. But this book is interesting to think about, because it's both moralistic, pragmatic, and something else...
There's questions here which are only questions.
But no matter what it's a page turner

Holy shit, my first dive back into sci fi is with a male pregnancy story. I'm glad I'm finally reading Butler, her style is good. I'm learning how she does things. She first plunges you into a place and there's some disturbing shit going on, but what is it exactly? Then there's the psychological drama. Maybe I'll finish it today!

the pattern of this book is really compact and it feels predictable now... not feeling an abundanceof need to finish it right this second
