Cowboys and southern aristocracy are WILDLY different cultures, from whole ass different parts of the country. This author seems to think they are interchangeable. Baffling.

Trying WAY too hard for ambiance, and I understand most southern-isms, but many of these don’t even make any sense. “The town’s breath, somewhere below the hill, finally came out of the chest it had been holding.” The chest was being held by the breath? That… switch that. That doesn’t make sense. So far there has been multiple instances of the MMC being “giants” and then says they’re 6’3”. That’s just a guy.

Oh. Typo in the second sentence. That’s what the one star reviews meant.

Lol at (paraphrasing) “I was going to ask my brother (the cop) if he realized the serial killer leaving the wolf logos was the guy named Lykos. Did the cops know “lykos” means wolf? Probably not.” Can’t get over how the FMC is like “ACAB, but also ACADA (all cops are dumbasses), including my brother, the idiot.”

This is getting a bit draggy again, which is so disappointing.

I don’t want to dnf a book at 87%, that’s madness, but also I’m so bored at this book being 95% self reflection. Can the characters interact? It would be super cool if they could.

Just kidding, the author does cover that they artificially enhance trophy animals they order. A real-deal trophy hunt hater. Good for her.

Had to switch from audio to the ereader. The MMC/narrator sounds like if Paul Holes’ (true crime podcast listeners will understand) brother, who happens to be a detective in chicago, is speaking. They’ve got to wrap up their fae warrior business here in the great hall so they can get home and watch da bears. Wrong genre for this affect.
