It’s refreshing to see that Jane has actual human limitations. She hasn’t become some amazing warrior after training for 3 months, she hasn’t mastered Runes to protect herself, and she is still vulnerable to magical manipulation - understandable and relatable progression rather than unprecedented skill and strength from nowhere is much better.

There are some ACOTAR similarities here, but it’s different enough to be interesting.
I like Jane

Very good twist on Beauty and the Beast so far. Jane is argumentative and uncertain, Reagan is smug and aloof. The support characters are interesting.
Jane is about to learn to fight, to defend herself.

Omg. Ouyang is terrifying!
Is Zhu dead? I have to think not, the way Ouyang spoke when he wounded her.
Holy flip, I didn’t expect their fight to go this way, but it makes sense if what I think about her fate is true…

Just when I think I can’t be more in love with a story, this book has hit me in all the feels 🥹 I adore the characters, their trauma and struggles make them so relatable. How they come across strong, yet so fragile and damaged at the same time 😱 literally bawling. If I didn’t need sleep, I’d be staying up to finish this tonight
