Do the ends justify the means? Should we focus on those that need help now, or the future humans in a world we can’t conceive? Ideally our focus would be both, but the excuses for wealth concentration and the abandonment of safety for expediency paint a grim picture for present and near future humans.

We are not colonizing Mars. AI will not fix society’s problems. Our current problems must take priority.
