“I Am the Doorway” - Another scifi tale with a slight cosmic horror twist, with an astronaut who is possessed by something out of this world.

“The Mangler” - Leave it to Stephen King to transform an industrial laundry ironer/folder into an instrument of demonic murder and mayhem.

“Night Surf” - A brief jaunt into a world devastated by a virus, Captain Trips, which would later be utilized in THE STAND. Bleak and uncaring, “Night Surf” leaves you with no hope whatsoever.

“Graveyard Shift” - only Stephen King can take something as ordinarily unnerving as rats, and take it to an absurd degree and still have it be creepy AF. This was his first fiction sale (to Cavalier in 1970), and you can definitely see the author he would later become.

Finished the first story, “Jerusalem’s Lot”; something of a history of ‘SALEM’S LOT, but with a twist of Lovecraftian, cosmic horror thrown in for good measure. Interesting opening story to this collection of short stories.

Well… unfortunately, I’m setting this one aside for the moment. I can tell it’s going to require me to devote more brain space than I have available right now to properly grasp the story. It’s hella queer, which I’m 100% here for, but the experimental scifi stuff is confusing me, and I feel like I’m already lost. There’s a fantastic story here, I just can’t wrap my head around it properly right now.
