Gary seems to be torn between actually expressing his vulnerability, after his mom left, to his very reckless older brother Brad, or to cover it up with a tough facade by bullying his peers around him. He has seen the alien sightings, but does not want to admit that he saw it. I think that this was a case of just pure panic and hysteria, but that could changed at the end. I’ll just have to wait and see.
