Theory: the reason the Starks have such Main Character plot armor is because they, more than probably any other house, have remained loyal to the Old Gods. Biggest ass-pull so far it pissed me off in the show and it pisses me off now. You have any number of interesting characters you can pull to assassinate Renly, any of the southern lords or northern deserters you can invent, and your choice is... magic??? Like yeah ok it's cool that magic isn't as dead as people believe but come ONNN I love Renly too much for him to die like this.
