It was slow going, but Tom and Stu finally found a place to crash, and Stu finally got over his sickness. The problem is now they’re snowed in until spring, still pretty far away from Boulder. It’s pissing me off how long it’s taking, but at least they’re having fun.

Witnessed the dark man and his Nazis’ epic demise at the hands of Trash and his nuke. Ralph and especially Larry seemed at peace, relieved that their dying had actually done something. Stu somehow has the flu, and Kojak’s helping him as best he can, but it’s not looking good. Tom just showed up though, so maybe something can get done, and they can go home.

Thank god Kojak is helping Stu. It is now the final countdown, and the dark man and his nazis are finally about to get smoked. Too bad, Larry and Ralph are going to die too (Glen already died, but at least he went down in style, roasting the ever-loving shit out of the dark man).

I’m so mad, I can’t even comment. Stu broke his leg, and the assholes left him behind. Larry was the only was who was like no, that’s fucking dumb, and Glen (who also agrees it’s wrong but sticks to it because it’s the most practical. Ralph is a fucking dumbass and just believes everything is part of God’s plan, and he really didn’t seem to give af. Fuck that guy.

Well, Nadine finally did something right (for once) and successfully ragebaited the dark man into throwing her off a building. So at least his demon spawn is not an issue. And everybody is questioning his judgment, including himself. Things are looking up. Oh, and trashy blew up some fuel trucks, half the helicopters, and all of the pilots because a couple of guys were teasing him. We love Trash.

Tom has made it out and is on the way back. The people in Vegas honestly sound like Nazis, or as Tom would say, monsters wearing the masks of happy, kind people. Things are definitely going south in Vegas; trashy blew up a fuel truck and killed one of the pilots.

It’s going well. Like I said the dark man’s starting to slip a little bit, not being able to sense Tom (who is currently leaving - it’s the full moon) or our main gang heading directly to confront him. He finally got Nadine and fucked her so hard that she is now pretty much catatonic. And pregnant, probably with the Antichrist.

The dark man is doubting himself a little bit, but the stubborn bastard is still determined to either missile strike, nuke, or set another super disease on the free zone. He’s losing it a little bit though, and Tom is still safe.

Harold met his end. Nadine and the dark man plotted to throw him off his motorcycle and to his death. It took five days, but eventually he was forced to pull the trigger (literally). I felt bad for him at the end. He realized his mistakes and apologized for them in a meaningful way, no bullshit excuses. I just wish his life could have been different; I have more respect for him now.

Dayna just died, and as much as I wanted her to live, I’m glad she at least went out with style. Stuck it to Lloyd and the dark man. Just wish she didn’t have to commit suicide to do it. Tom is safe though, so that’s pretty fucking awesome.

RIP to the Judge, who got his face blown off as soon as he entered the West (fucking Oregon too, not even close to Vegas). Put up a good fight though. RIP to Bobby terry as well; he killed the judge, but I also kind of liked him. Dayna and Tom made it to Vegas no problem though. Dayna is sleeping with Lloyd for information (the best idea they’ve had yet), but she’s also about to get exposed and probably killed.

We’re on to Book III, and shit’s getting real now. Mother Abigail, from her death bed, basically told the main four guys - Stu, Glen, Larry, and Ralph - to go west with no food, resources, and weapons and confront the dark man. But she doesn’t know if it’s “God’s will” for them to even defeat him. And then she said to Frannie “oh btw idk if your baby lives.” Literally the most unhelpful.

Things have gone extremely awry. I can’t talk about Nick and Sue dying because it pisses me off way too much, especially Nick. At least Harold and Nadine may finally get their dues. The people are also folding and turning into kind of an idiotic lynch-mob, but at least Mother Abigail’s finally back to give some advice.

Jesus Christ. It’s taken them eons, but with Leo’s explicit nudging (what would they do without him) and their combined suspicions, Larry and Fran actually read Harold’s ledger and figured out he wants to kill them. I can’t stand Nadine and Harold, but mostly Nadine, for abandoning Leo and then blaming him for it. She’s a hypocritical bitch.

Didn’t read much, but about the same. Leo has reverted back to Joe because Nadine abandoned the shit out of him, and she somehow tried to pin this abandonment on Leo and Larry. I swear, she better get fucked up in this book. Still working on building up the government. All scouts have departed.

Pretty good so far. Despite his slight progress and uneasy feelings about Nadine, Harold infuriatingly decides to buckle down on his lingering resentment. It pisses me off because the thing he now resents them for is being excluded from the committee, but that’s because he was acting like a distrustful psycho the whole time. Also worried for Fran’s baby after that doctor mentioned the other two that died.

They went to go see Tom, like I mentioned before, but when they actually hypnotized him, he kind of turned into a prophet, talking about the dark man being Legion and Mother Abagail wandering around in the desert. He’s basically like a hotline to God. Glad my boy Tom is getting his dues, but I am very afraid for him.

Going well. The judge is off and running for the west. Tom’s next, and I’m very scared for both of them, especially Tom. He’s basically a kid and just showed everybody all of the toys he used to decorate the house. He also has some version of the shine to him based on the hidden patterns these decorations form. I need him to survive at least.

Still going pretty well. The scouts are about to depart, and I feel like a bunch of shit is going to go down pretty soon.

It’s going about the same. Nadine is pissing me off more and more, and this time, she essentially groomed and statutory raped Harold. He was finally about to get over his insecurities, but then she showed up and basically promised any kind of sexual pleasure if he joined the dark man. What a hypocritical bitch. Really scared for Stu, Fran, and the three scouts they’re sending out. Pulling for my boy Tom.

Fantastic. It’s interesting to see all of the work that goes into building a new American republic that adheres to the constitution while also not making the same mistakes as their predecessors. Nadine is pissing me off with her constant hypocrisy and abandonment of Leo, but I love the Dracula vibes I’m getting from her and the dark man.

It’s really good so far. I’ve taken quite a long break due to starting and getting invested in several other books, but I enjoy all of the graveyard lore and the supernatural friends and family Nobody makes along the way. I also love the set-up of each chapter covering one relatively self-contained story that is still relevant to the main overarching narrative. The style and flow remind me strongly of Salinger.

This is one already one of my favorites. The character development, dialogue, syntax, diction, phrasing, as well as the amount of detail is definitely some of his best work, and you can see a clear difference in his language from Carrie (which was still really good) to that of The Stand. Can’t wait to finish it and add it to the list.
