(Funny because it’s true. Well, not so much the "their corner of"-part but still.)

I LOVE THIS BOOK and will go right back to reading. Just sharing a quote that made me laugh out loud and really fits with my 66% progress:

„I should stop reading nonfiction from more than 5 years ago“, she said and proceeded to start a book from 2013. So far it‘s still interesting, though.

Stellenweise genauso zynisch moralisierend wie erwartet. Mal schauen wie es sich weiter entwickelt.

Very enjoyable read so far, fairly typical McEwan prose.
I’ll have to rewatch the movie after reading this — it feels like the pacing was completely different? Might just be my memory of it, though. Also how on earth did they even make a movie out of this, the book lives off introspection!

So so so gut 💕 (Und mit dem Kapitel über das menschliche Glück beende ich auch meine mental health Pause und ich mache mich wieder an die Arbeit, in der Hoffnung, dass mir deren Fertigstellung Glücksgefühle bescheren wird. The irony is not lost on me.)

(Updating to mention my sudden suspicion of a connection between the mysteriously well-hidden artefact and a certain lady‘s reluctance to set foot on shrine grounds right after her baby’s birth.)

So descriptive that even my utterly bad imagination manages to visualise scenes - I like. Really enjoying the Japanese folklore and the adorable characters.

1. This is not helping against my Kyoto nostalgia.
2. Really liking the atmosphere so far. The writing is beautifully descriptive and the perfect kind of strange.
3. wow the action picked up quickly! and the yokai are terrifying whaa

So there’s now a Gay Best Friend (Who Is Also Somehow Asexual) in addition to the Magical Disabled Girl. Also, we‘re at the point in the plot where literally everybody but the characters knows the incredibly obvious answer to an important question.
