I don’t know why this is classified as southern gothic. There is nothing gothic about the story. Sure it’s set in the South but the story feels more small town, than creepy.

So far I love it. I didn’t know how I felt about the past and Alys’s demise right at the beginning. The story is more about how she go to that point.

The past with Nicole is proving to be a good mystery for sure, and a little romance as well.

So far I love it. It keeps me wanting to turn the page. I also feel for Alys, and not being able to make her own choices in life. Most women did not get to make a whole lot of choices in the 17th century.

I liked the book at the beginning but I do feel like it’s dragging on, and that there is too many characters.
