Started the 2nd novel of the series. So far, I like it better than the previous one, especially the character descriptions. I wish, however, that Marston wouldn't use rape or the threat of rape as a plot device in *two novels in a row*.

I was expecting a cosy mystery, but it's not quite like that -- it starts with a short story which serves to introduce Precious Ramotswe, then goes back in time with her dad's story, and Precious's early life. Enjoying it so far.

Loving it. Fun and creepy-cool! Illustrations are perfect, too.

Same book, but I picked the wrong edition yesterday and wasn't able to switch between the two (I picked an illustrated version, which looks really interesting too).

I like the foreshadowing *so* much in this! You just know Captain Walton needs some sense slapped into him, and Victor Frankenstein's almost ghoulish arrival might just do the trick.

<spoiler> I thought the school being attacked was an unnecessary subplot -- it dragged on, then was cut abruptly. Naheed being there broke my suspension of disbelief, even though I'm generally fine with the fairytale-like coincidences throughout the book (it works for me). And finally, Basie. I really didn't want him to die. Realistic or not, it's just too much for one family.</spoiler>

I love Nadeem Aslam's writing style. His descriptions are gorgeous, and aside from the beautiful poetry, some parts have a fairy-tale-like quality to them.

Some other parts, however, are very difficult to read because of the subject matters. I don't know if I'm strong enough, at this point in time, to finish this book. I hope I will. But if I can't -- it won't be the book's fault.
