Warcross speaks to me in a way that not many other books have. Intentions are obscured, the plot is surprising, and the characters feel well-developed to a point of humanity. I love the setting, and the state of technology it invites the reader to imagine.

I enjoy how the world-building follows what is actually relevant to Juliette. Her repetition throws me off, and the narrative only makes sense in retrospect, so it feels designed for a reread.

It seems as though Lucinda wrote this book to explain her decline towards the end of her skating career rather than to provide a sort of lesson, of which she formally notes as her plan for the reader to take away.

She keeps complaining about her circumstances and praising her mother despite the circumstances being perpetuated by her parents. Getting frustrated

Something about the way Lucinda shifts between extreme affection for her mother and deathly, paralyzing fear of her abuse is unsettling in a way which I’ve never seen in an autobiography before
