I’m not in the mood to read the downfall of a woman, especially a silly one. I don’t want to compare Kevin’s heroine unfavorably to Wharton’s in House if Mirth but I can’t stop myself. I appreciate Keun but not this month.

I started this short story collection, courtesy of Carolle the Archivist, on the subway. This will be by my side as a go-to volume all summer. From the first short story, "From A to Z" by Susan Glaspell: "...was one every close to anyone with whom one did not spend some of the hours of absence? She began to see that hours spent together when apart were the most intimate of all." (p.11)
