This is pretty tough sledding. It sometimes reads like a history textbook but the characters and plot lines are compelling enough to keep me committed. “The Cider House Rules” was a fave so this piqued my curiosity with its tie-back to that Irving classic. I will finish it and there will no doubt be a reward for getting through the tough parts.
