Two chapters in and this book is so good so far!! I love the presence of the Gullah-Geechee accent. It reminds me of certain words I’ve only heard my now-deceased grandma say (hunnuh, buckrah, yeddy, biggity). However, as someone who grew up hearing the accent, it’s hard to hear the narrator’s attempt. Reading along is helpful. The historical references are amazing (Ida B. Wells’ columns, etc.).
