Discussing Part II this in class tomorrow . . .

Although I was enjoying this book, I eventually gave up on it, for the simple reason that it's huge size makes it extremely awkward to read. I wish this were available in Kindle format, but the Kindle version is an abridged one that eliminates the frame story about the professor and the young student. Still, the core novel, about Sor Juana, does a lovely job of brining colonial Mexico to life.

I'm having real issues with the way EH writes the speech of Spanish-speaking characters.

I cannot believe how absorbing I am finding this book . . . MacCulloch tells his story masterfully, making personalities come to life
