It’s good again! The middle was a bit of a slog with how many holes/inconsistencies there were, but it was wrapped together nicely to explain why that was happening (with allusions to this fact). I’m now truly having fun with Control and his tactics/reactions, and this is giving the book a more personal feeling and interest.

Loving it! Picking up the pace and getting through a lot more pages each time I open the book. It’s still a lot more dense than Annihilation, but Control and his reactions to the new environment keeps harkening back to the first one.

The continued dive into Control’s history and how it continues to affect his current life is very good. I’m also enjoying the delving into the interview with a certain character.

Enjoying it so far, but a bit less grasping than Annihilation was. I’m excited to see how the flip of character concept develops and where Control will begin to evolve with Area X, if that does happen.

Oooo loving the hypotheticals they’re proposing!

Loving it!! The action is really picking up and the scene in the facility was fantastic and super quick.

Finished up part 1 and into the proper point of the book. Very anxious during the ending of this part, which is definitely proving I’m loving the style. Interested to see where the characters meet, and where the main issue comes up (other than the obvious one if there is one).

Enjoying it so far! Duel story telling is good, and the outside view of the book is well done. Interested to see where Barry’s storyline goes.

Smaug :D

Just left the wood-elves and we’re off to the lonely mountain proper!

The combat against the spiders was great! The biggest difference between the movie and book so far has come up, which is Bilbo telling the dwarves about the ring.

Still enjoying it! Slowing down a bit and having some trouble pushing through occasionally, but I’m excited to reach Smaug!

“Bilbo had escaped.”

Finished up the Gollum chapter! It’s impressive to think of how closely the movie adaptation of the book really is.

“Now they ride away amid dons of farewell and good speed, with their hearts ready for more adventure, and with a knowledge of the road they must follow over the Misty Mountains to the land beyond.”

Going strong! The style of focusing in on certain points of the journey and skipping over the dull parts is a good way of keeping the story going.

It’s very good so far! I was not expecting the writing style it’s in, as it’s addressed to the reader, and I’m beginning to think more about the world.

“And now it was too late.”

Still very much enjoying it! I think part of the horror is that the narrator might just as well be going insane, but we only see things from her perspective so it’s always unsure. The horror elements themselves are pretty good, but the psychological aspects are amazing.

“You would have fascinated me, and I would have followed you anywhere. Without hesitation.”

The narrator continues a fall into madness that is phrased as her senses becoming heightened, and it creates such a feeling of insecurity as you continue to feel uncertain.

“Bodies are one thing; no amount of training could prepare you for encountering a monster.”

The horror book is doing horror things!! Enjoying the uneasiness.

“I didn’t want their voices in my head, their ideas of me, nor their own stories or problems. Why would they want mine?”

Continues to develop the intrigue with an unreliable narrator, as she continues to fall into insanity with her group without realizing. Still very good!

“for they, too, had adapted to their habitat.”

Enjoying it so far! It starts in the middle and goes back to entry in Area X so I’m interested to read the different changes of the local environment.
