Vis is a bit of a gary stu, but honestly it’s okay. i don’t mind an overpowered character as long as it doesn’t stick out from the story. the attack at the naumachia was very well written, I couldn’t put down the book because i wanted to see how the crisis would be resolved.

I was really surprised when i realized that the actual plot of the book hasn’t properly started yet, because it’s been such a page turner and interesting to read. Usually I’d get bored at this point and want for the story to actually progress instead of bigger ways, but I have to say I like how this is paced so far. Page turner despite taking it slow.

Still really enjoying the writing. Cal is a pretty awkward character but in the best way. I think it’s great how human everything feels.
Also the discrepancy between John being so Gaelic and proud to speak Gaelic, resenting being forced to speak english, but then turning around as an ultra christian. The religion that was forced onto his ancestors. Crazy work ngl

I really like how the book is written so far. It’s been really evocative and beautiful.
I also really like the characters they’re just clear enough to read in their intentions and their core to keep me interested, but not enough for me to be able to claim to know what they are thinking. It’s like trying to solve a puzzle. Just some guesses, but the pieces end up fitting.

This has gotten me out of my reading slump. I kind of forgot how fun reading is because I’ve only been reading books that I am required to read for school so I am glad this has brought back that joy. My friend recommended it to me 😗
