This might be the truest depiction of what depression and addiction looks like.
I don’t think we should think Yozo isn’t to blame for the ways he copes
Stealing to be able to pay for a drink, is your fault.
But you only ever realise it in hindsight. Or you know full well it’s wrong and your priorities are messed up.

The perfect way to word surviving the double end yourselves attempt, while the other is successful.
Because that period/full stop at the end screams “apparently”.

To everyone else Yozo is saved. But to Yozo, not only is he back in his miserable existence but he’s realised he’s got even less.

Also, Yozo is not a likeable guy. But Horiki is a cunt.

Am I getting through the book quicker than normal? Yes

Am I enjoying it? I think I am. (???)

Yozo is socially depressed and anxious to an unwillingly hyper fixated level.
If you’ve ever had depression you can relate to some of it.
Anxious? Same thing.

I’m sure in the original language it’s a bit easier to get through because it feels a slog to get through
But I guess that adds to it
