This book really is a priceless lesson on Christian ethics from a priest that fought against Bolshevik lunacy. I can’t put it down. This should be a classic that’s read by every Christian. There’s a free reading (albeit low quality) on YouTube. Go sample it there.

It’s just wild to read this book and see how many facets of modern culture are founded upon the ideas laid out in this book. It’s a mixture of the most beautiful and the most horrific. It’s the ideas you wish were universal (like the search for ultimate truth and virtue) and the ideas you wish would just disappear (communism and propaganda), but wrapped up into one package.

I am currently burning through this audiobook. There’s a very interesting retelling of history through the lens of technological advancement that I really appreciated. The author is doing justice to the idea of a population crash, which has fascinated me for a long time now.

This has been hilarious in many places. It’s also interesting to watch the Greeks wrestle with the costs of war.

We had to ascend to heaven in Christ to see and to understand the creation in its real being as glorification of God, as the response to divine love, in which alone creation becomes what God wants it to be thanksgiving, Eucharist, adoration.

In our perspective, however, the "original" sin is not primarily that man has "disobeyed" God ; the sin is that he ceased to be hungry for Him and for Him alone, ceased to see his whole life depending on the whole worl d as a sacrament of communion with God.

Let us then welcome our God and Lord, the true healer, who alone is able to come and cure our souls, after He has labored so much for our sake.

Homily 27 is very good!

There is an unbridgeable gulf between man and truth. Man is on one side of this gulf and can find no way of getting to the other, where transcendent Truth is to be found. But the power of Truth, from the other side, responds to the powerlessness of man on this side. Transcendent Truth crosses the gulf, arrives on our side of it and reveals Itself—Himself—in the person of Christ, the God-man.

This book has been a wonderful companion for lent.

This is officially the most favorite book I own. These are the most heroic stories of saints I’ve ever heard. Read it and let God encourage you to imitate them.

What an absolutely captivating book! Prisoners basically build a monastery in a communist prison. It’s just incredible to hear their own words about feeling deeply thankful for the torment they endured.

Homily 4, 10, and 11 are my favorite so far.

This is the most surgical and thorough explanation of the body, soul, and spirit I’ve ever encountered. Yet it is very clear and accessible in it presentation.
