This book is beautifully written and a simple joy to read. Susan Orlean has literally stuffed it with gems that resonate and strongly challenge my resolve to not damage a book by underlining every interesting passage. (Not done reading it yet and considering buying another copy to defile for my own future enjoyment! ;) - Check out the last paragraph of page 93, if you have a copy of the book.

They had me at Fitzgerald, Parker and Wharton, my personal trinity of New York literary elite. So far, Towles delivers, in spades. I suspect, by the end of this book, I’ll have added a 4th to the trinity! Needless to say, although I just did, I’ve already purchased “A Gentleman in Moscow”. Oh, how I’ll hate leaving Manhattan for Siberia... Although, if anyone can make a seamless transition, Towles can.
