"...When the time comes to punish, we shall strike such a blow as'll make their hearts faint and fearful. We shall strike the strength out of 'em. We shall leave them ruined and wasted, broken and shattered, torn in a thousand pieces and scattered to the four winds. Don't you worry that John Faa's heart is too soft to strike a blow when the time comes..."

"That's the duty of the old," said the Librarian, "to be anxious on behalf of the young. And the duty of the young is to scorn the anxiety of the old."

They sat for a while longer, and then parted, for it was late, and they were old and anxious.

I am very sad that this book is not working for me. At first, I was reminded of Modern Faerie Tales. Really cool New England urban fantasy setting, an FMC that read like a grown up version of Kaye. But the writing itself is not working, the magic system is not explained well, and I can't manage to feel bad for Charlie or Posey because their problems are somehow bland despite being weird. DNF for now :(

Normally I would consider 25 pages in wayyy too early to post an update, however, Holly Black made up her own alternative to 4chan called "8kun" and I felt the need to share that.

Ten toes down for bat-like gargoyle

This is VERY good so far. Unique, entertaining, and tender.

What is this and why am I reading it...

We have fisting on the third date. FISTING. On the THIRD DATE.

We have a woman who was raised on a commune, surrounded by naked adults who basically orgy'd 24/7, who can't get over the fact that her son is gay. She harps on how much it grosses her out to no end yet, no issue seeing her own dad's ballsack all the time as a child??

Sure, Ellen, ok.

What a wonderful human. I love reading about her life in her own words. It's left me feeling very tender, though, and I am sad that she's no longer here.

This is excellent so far. The Vin/Kelsier dynamic warms my heart.
