I’ve been thinking this the entire book but I have no idea what this book is supposed to centre around. The last book was Glennon’s marriage to Craig. This one? Her life since I guess and things she’s supposedly learnt?

While she does not seemingly have a very interesting life and therefore much of this book is repetitive or repeats a lot of information found out in her memoir ‘Love Warrior’, anybody’s life can be developed into an interesting story, if told correctly. But the way she changes from speaking about her own personal experiences into other people’s world experiences but centres herself in those ruins the book

I think the underlying issue with this book is that Glennon Doyle does not particularly have an interesting life. Yes, she has created organisations that have raised millions and that is very respectable. But she does not delve heavily into these or her involvement in these/what she has learnt outside of centring herself as seemingly affected more than those actually experiencing prejudice/injustices.

To write a book and heavily speak about racism, yet to centre herself in all of these atrocities is really something. And her entire point reasoning for action is this idea that she has so much empathy and feels things so deeply and can put herself in other people’s shoes, therefore, she actions. Not because she can just see something as morally (etc) wrong and an injustice.

What is she actually on about ‘Maybe the world needs my poetry’. And her whole speech on thinking that she is mentally ill because she pays attention to injustices in the world? Does she think everybody who has first-hand experience of these injustices also have mental illnesses?

‘… the thing that breaks your heart is the very thing you were born to help heal. Every world changer’s work begins with a broken heart.’ What in the white privilege/white saviour complex is this

The more I read, the more she screams white privilege. ‘The magic of heartbreak is that each persons doorbell rings in response to something specific. What rings your bell? Is it racial injustice? Bullying? Animal cruelty? (Etc) what is it that affects you so deeply that whenever you encounter it you feel the need to look away? Look there. Where is the pain in the world that you just cannot stand? Stand there…

Her self awareness is awful 😭 going on about how after she divorced Craig they were in an elevator together and ‘for the first time in years I felt true empathy, tenderness and warmth toward him. Once again I could see him as a good man with whom I’d like to be friends. I felt real forgiveness.’ But she chose to stay in the marriage for years following his infidelity and then cheated too?

These are like the craziest takes on racism ffs 😭 she needs to go back to the drawing board and READ and LISTEN to POC omg

White (WEIRD biased) viewpoint. And I think she heavily needs to read non fiction or really just do anything because a white woman writing like this while trying to educate other white people (I assume is what she’s aiming for) about racism is crazy and not helpful.

It’s like she is publicly attempting to unpack her white privilege without fully understanding that’s what she is doing but she is just giving racist. Also the idea of ‘there was a time on earth when a few hoarded unspeakable riches while children starved. People raped and robbed and enslaved one another and waged wars against one another for power and money.’ This is still true. She has a very American

The racism points - my god this is actually rage bait. A white woman, who earlier went on about how she feels so much empathy for people she feels what they feel, was expecting everybody to be as outraged about asylum seekers being sent to other countries (clearly not knowing racism exists?) and then going to bed early to deal with it. The white privilege man ffs

Something about how all women need to be equal to one another. She’s learning the concept of intersectionality/intersectional feminism.

I’m glad she’s learning about the patriarchy, misogyny, and feminism, but damn is she late to this omg. I genuinely think she needs to read any non-fiction books on anything she speaks about ever.
