How japan, the us and the soviets influenced china. Japan provided much early importation of western ideas to china in the 1800s, but turned out to be a deadly enemy. The US was important, but threw china under the bus in 1919 in versailles and also chinese exclusion. China turned towards the soviets for revolution and also learning about their mistakes in a socialist state

Talked about language, nationality and confucianism. Many of the words for western ideas were imported after japan translated from the west like “society”, “citizenship” and others. Confucianism always has been a contentious issue whether to promote or suppress as a pillar of chineseness. Im looking forward towards the next chapter about overseas chinese :)
