Protagonist the protagonist is Stanley Yelnats an unlucky boy from Texas with family heritage from Latvia and was born in America. Stanley was framed and is innocent but was punished and sent to camp Green lake which is were the story takes place.

The great book Holes by Louis Sachar takes place in the present day at Camp Green Lake in Texas. This book takes place in the late 90s in a desert in Texas. The desert used to be a lake but has dried up and is known as Camp Green, a work camp for "Bad boys" where the boys dig holes making the aria look more like the moon! However the setting changes throughout the book due to the fact that the book changes timelines.

Genre is a mystery/ Realistic fiction about a kid named Stanley who was framed and sent to camp green lake. There is no lake at Camp Green-lake.
instead Stanley has to dig holes for the next year and a half unless he can clear his name and uncover the only real crime at Camp Green-lake.
