As I'm playing Jarry in the play JARRY by John Anthony West, this book is fascinating to me. Not just because he was an iconoclastic fellow but also the book places him in the setting of anarchism and socialism of turn-of-the-century France, a period of change and tumult, somewhat akin to the 1920s and the 60s.

I can't believe how much fun it is to tie knots, even though I don't have much practical use for them.

I don't understand yet what it's about, but the prose sucks me in, and it's delightful to be constantly surprised.
