There are too many asides and pointless character backgrounds. I don't care how Martin Crowe got to be this badass mercenary, because none of it is going to matter later. His daughter is sick and he's trying to get money to save her. That's all you really need. If I should care about it, then he shouldn't have been introduced half way through the book as a fairly generic antagonist

There are times that the book feels bogged down by teaching/explaining statistics or quantum mechanics. Some of these feel relatively unnecessary and like an excuse to justify research the author did into the topics at hand. It isn't horrible, but it can be frustrating having to sit through 3 pages of information that doesn't really add to the story

The book is still getting better. That's not to say it's bad. Side note, my copy is 400 pages long. I just finished chapter 9 if that's an easier metric for the 0 people that follow me

I was put off by the view point changing between chapters. This isn't to say that's a bad decision, I loved it in "The One True Prince." I was worried it was going to be more like "There Will Come A Darkness" which I struggled to get into. Luckily, this comes back relatively quickly to Caine.
