Certain chapters are very smart and compelling. Much is so preachy I can barely read it. Hard to tell if the interesting bits are worth the misery.

So far it's been very good, and the research was excellent for the time, but the modern reader will find that the book thus far is written almost too soon after the events occurred, giving the piece a vaguely biased tone.
