I almost put this book down during the first few chapters, but because it's the large print version and my tired eyes are enjoying not squinting, I've continued. It does get more interesting. This is not a page turner, but it has historical parts and some character interest in how the cultural mores of the time (WW1) created difficulties in getting through personal perspectives in order to face challenges of war.

This Ann Patchett really knows how to write! Thank you Ann. The first chapter was precisely what makes me want to keep going. Overall the story keeps rolling along, characters keep developing so naturally. So glad I fell across this in a pile of books I was going through to donate.

Couldn't get in to it. Too many other good books falling into my lap.

I probably won't finish this book. The characters are pretty shallow and I'm not getting into it.
