Sandy is starting The Mountains Sing
A story of strength and resilience of women and children. I learned so much about life in Vietnam before American involvement.
The families’ love, bond and ability to forgive is remarkable. The weaving of Vietnamese proverbs helped balance the English with the authentic voice of the narrators.

Great for YA- fill disclosure, decided to read all of Josef’s story first because I was having trouble retaining each character’s events as I switched from one to the next and back.

Sandy is starting West with Giraffes
Good. Not great. Woody Nickel, Red and the Old Man were all likable characters and I cared about their journey. Had a hard time picturing the rig. Pacing could have been better in some places maybe? Backdrop of dust bowl and start of WW2, reminders of how much harder times were.
Not sure why I didn’t like it more.

A page turner for sure. Fun fast read- I cared about the characters, both Eva and Claire and the as eager to see how they navigated their respective predicaments. I liked the ending.

Sandy is starting Lie to Me
Meh. I had the “bad guy” figured out early on. Like watching a mediocre TV limited series- writing and acting not very good, but you keep watching to see what happens and to confirm that what you predicted plays out.
It kept me reading, but was disappointing in the end. Glad to be on to something new.
