I never knew the depths to Dennis Hopper's insanity. His stories alone make this a fascinating read. He's not alone in his lunatic behavior however and this book is packed with terrific tales of bad behavior that helped create one of the most incredible eras of filmmaking in Hollywood history.

I am really enjoying this book, even more than I thought I would. The context that Mark Harris places everything in is even more fascinating than the movies themselves.

Always find something new in this classic. Such interesting choices by Stoker at times.

I probably shouldn't have started reading this under the influence. I've had to restart several times.

A fascinating examination of this most infamous event. I really enjoy how the author has put the moment in context with the world and specifically the landscape of broadcast media.

Not what I expected. Was hoping for a bit more horror, but absolutely love the characters and fascinated by the examination of Jim Crow era south through the lens of sci-fi/horror tropes. Very entertaining.

Funny how there are parts, big chunks of this book that made it into the film verbatim, but then really large scale changes as well. Coming to the end. Might have to watch the movies again just to complete my Chili Palmer fix. Still love the interaction between Travolta and Galdolfini.

A little surprised by this re-read. i forgot how short the chapters are. Bang-bang-bang! It's very difficult to not see the actors form the movie when reading it. Have to give credit to Travolta; he added a lot of charm to Chili Palmer that i don't feel is in the book.

I've read this book before and I've seen the movie a half dozen times, bu this is the first time I've realized that Harry blew all the cash in Vegas. I feel sort of stupid for not seeing that before.

Just not blowing my hair back. A very straightforward story. Almost reads more like a script than prose. Not a lot of style to it, just plain, straight, storytelling. I do like the characters and where the story is going but it's not the most pleasant experience. It's becoming a bit of a chore to get through. I will finish it but more just so I can move on to something else than because it is a page-turner.

While I am really enjoying this book, I feel that it drags on a bit. There is a lot of material here that while fleshing out the characters thoughts and emotions quite a bit, it is a little inefficient for my tastes.

Ten chapters may seem like a long set up but man, what an emotional roller coaster. As a father, raising a son, the beginning of this book punched me in the heart.
