Really enjoyed the Crown Conspiracy story. It was fun. The twists weren’t particularly hard to guess. I clocked the guilty immediately, but that didn’t deter my enjoyment.

I get the desire to write a battle, but I feel like the move was for Alric to ride forth under guard waving a white flag of parley and his own flag. Then have the herald blow a horn and identify Alric. There must be some royal soldiers even among the mercenaries so it could have turned the defending army against itself, rather than starting a battle and sacrificing his soldiers.

Had a lightbulb moment. I think Lightsong is Denth’s friend who got killed by Vasher.

I think it was a naming mistake to have Gallardia, Galtia, and Goltay all be locations in this story.

This film canister clue really shows how inept Harry is. He picks up a film canister from Sells’s house. Doesn’t look inside. He gets another canister from the other crime scene. Confirms they’re from the same camera. Then he burns the film he knows is there without looking at it, and now says he has no photos. If the first can was empty why not burn it as a decoy? If it wasn’t empty, he still has evidence.

Milk’s chapter with the Prepotente mini episode was great. But man, Volteeg’s chapter really got me. Little birdie who loved to sing, took a pet biscuit, lost his mommy in the dungeon, and then became a suicide bomber. I’m not okay 😭

These characters feel completely hollow. This isn’t living up to the hype unfortunately.

Bayaz and Glokta talking was an 11/10 scene.

I listened to the chapter today where Jezal went to the closed council meeting and I loved it! So satisfying to hear someone yell at those Horrible Old Men.

I’m halfway through the book and not loving it. I know this is really well reviewed. Is this one that clicks halfway, or should I be obsessed already?

Honestly getting tired of Glokta continuing to bend over for whatever Sult wants.

Forgot to talk about this when reviewing TBI, but I’m thinking about it again now. I love the juxtaposition between Jezal and Glokta, and how Jezal is a window into who Glokta was in his youth. Their characters are very different, but Jezal illuminates Glokta. Jezal now having scars and an injured leg pushes their stories even closer. I wonder if they will meet again, and Jezal can see Glokta in a different light.

Can hardly put the book down.
