The Trail Of The Black Walnut
"Soon after 1702 the available land about Germantown had largely been taken up, which necessitated the establishing of a second Mennonite colony along Skippack Creek, a tribu tary of the Perkiomen, about 30 miles above German town...called Skippack...begun by a Germantown colonist and several of his fellow immigrants a little later, became the center of a flourishing colony of Palatine Mennonites."

The Trail Of The Black Walnut
"...the first German colony in America was founded at Germantown in 1683.* The first settlers came from Crefeld and the surrounding regions along the lower Rhine near the Dutch border, and consisted of one Mennonite and twelve Mennonite-Quaker families, all with Dutch names."

Starting again. I'm reading the first edition, found on Internet Archive. Quite a long set of introductory pages, by the way.

Watching videos on these trees helps with visualization of what Wohlleben is describing. I remember seeing alder cones on my walks!

What about the root networks of bird cherries? Do they always act like "street kids"?

Wohlleben does have notes referring to his sources, but I feel uncomfortable reading his assertions--no matter how much I want to believe them--because he doesn't thoroughly back up each statement. You have to read it with the faith he actually has read the scientific literature. That's a problem, for me.

Canadian Railway Records: A Guide for Genealogists
I have yet to read this book, which I obtained via interlibrary loan sometime in 2019. I did take photos of the chronology (pp 113-117) which is very detailed. I'm mainly interested if any of the contents will tell me more about my grandfather's time working for the railway in Thunder Bay. I need to review his documents.

An easy read. Not sure if I will finish as I'm finding it hard to get anything from plot/characters which mean anything to me. NYC setting.

One thought: I wish Emily would write a poem about the mountain of cargo containers piled on the side of the Suez canal after the ship Ever Given became stuck this past March.
