Watching videos on these trees helps with visualization of what Wohlleben is describing. I remember seeing alder cones on my walks!

What about the root networks of bird cherries? Do they always act like "street kids"?

Wohlleben does have notes referring to his sources, but I feel uncomfortable reading his assertions--no matter how much I want to believe them--because he doesn't thoroughly back up each statement. You have to read it with the faith he actually has read the scientific literature. That's a problem, for me.

I have yet to read this book, which I obtained via interlibrary loan sometime in 2019. I did take photos of the chronology (pp 113-117) which is very detailed. I'm mainly interested if any of the contents will tell me more about my grandfather's time working for the railway in Thunder Bay. I need to review his documents.

I keep coming back to her poems in my quiet moments.

Very inventive and already keeping me on the edge of my seat!

I picked up this--and other fantasy books--at a Little Library last night. I guess I am reading speculative fiction all this winter! #OakvilleON

Introduction and maps of early regions and counties in Ontario. Ruth Burkholder, acknowledged by the author, may be related to my Burkholders (cousins through marriage).

An easy read. Not sure if I will finish as I'm finding it hard to get anything from plot/characters which mean anything to me. NYC setting.
